In modern day computing technology, backup has become a mandatory element for all Operating Systems as well as Disaster Recovery Plan for maintaining the integrity and security of a network. Different softwares are available to keep back-up of information for Windows Operating System. One such data backup software is called Genie Backup Manager that contains different backup strategies to help sustain the stability of the Operating System.

Genie Backup Manager Pro

Genie Backup Manager or GBM is a multi-functional backup software that provides powerful features that can archive and restore personal files, documents, e-mails, complex registry settings of Windows. It has also the capabilities of restoring different folders and files to remote or any local device across FTP locations or network, removable media, CD/DVD discs and so on. The most significant feature of Genie Backup Manager is that it is compatible with almost any backup media format including external and internal hard drives, USB memory, Floppy drives, CDs and DVDs and so on.

GBM uses bit-level verification technology to verify each byte of data that needs to be backed up, ensuring cent percent restorability with accuracy. It also offers rapid compression of data with high degree of unmatched efficiency and performance. In addition, GBM allows the needed protection for password backups using 128-bit AES protection. The professional version of this software facilitates up to 256-bit encryption.

How to use Genie Backup Manager

As GBM is very much user friendly, and an individual can run the backup of his data and other information by following some simple steps outlined below:

  1. Once GBM Home 8 is installed in Windows XP, the user needs to access GBM and click on the "Backup" option.
  2. From the left navigation menu in the backup wizard the user needs to select the option of “What to Backup” and then select “My Folders” tab
  3. The user then has to click in the checkbox next to each individual file or folder that he or she needs the backup
  4. Following these, the user has to select the proper Backup Settings. Either an individual can select compression, security type, and backup type depending on the need and then click “Next” to backup.
  5. Backup type can be "Full", "Increment" or Mirror. Once the user selects "Increment", he or she needs to select the checkbox "Enable Rollback". The backup type is fully dependent on the user what he chooses.
  6. If the user wants to compress his data or other valuable information, he can select the option "Use compression (Zip format)" and the compression level should always be selected as "Default" from the drop down menu.
  7. The security type in the settings option is upon the discretion of the user whether he needs to backup his information.

The above mentioned steps are easy to implement and the interface is self explanatory that can make any user whether he is a novice or an expert to actually back up their data and information safely and securely.

Hi to All

Really want to say that this GBM is amazing. It dows wonders.
I'm only finding it difficult to understand how the Incrementing works. As I understand you it only backsup the updated or added files or folders. But isn't it suppose to remove the older backups as set on the Backup Job?

I did a test run to see how it works and set it to Enable "increment" with Rollback. I have enabled Purging as well with the Option "Keep only last [2] Backup{s}". It does a Full Backup the first time, and the sequenced backups are the updated files being backedup. But they don't stop. I need to have, lets say 2 increments and then do another full backup. But it just keeps doing the increments...

My plan is to do a backup of a folder with media like images and and movie clips, they change often as to production selections. So a new backups is required after about a week. but during the week, I would like to do backups of only the changes that was made. In case something horrible happens, I have the full backup and the updated changes. Then after the 2nd or 3rd full backup at least, the 1st old back can be deleted.

As I understand, Genie can do all this, but I can't find my way around to make this work.
All help would be appreciated, as Genie Backup Manager sounds like the ideal program for this.

Thanks Twisted

Hello ,

It's really interesting tool. I am using it to backup some servers on daily basis. However i found one issue. When every job is completed all informations about job progress are saved for further review (via catalog tool). it is clever idea, but those data are stored only in system drive. I can't find the way how to forward storing of those files to different drive. You have two options. Manually (or via AT job) transfer those catalogs to different drive, or use purge function in your job settings. This will delete old backup files and catalogs too.

At the end, it was only one issue that i found on this application. From my point of view, it is great tool which made amazing work every day ;)

Thank you.

Hi, I hope that someone using this software daily will let you know how to solve your issue. Thanks for your comment.
